The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, conducted a Workshop on Power Electronic Applications and Control of Modern Electric Drives – III on February 22, 2019.

Power Electronics is the technology associated with efficient conversion, control and conditioning of electric power by static means from its available input form into the desired electrical output form. Today, there is hardly a home, office block, factory, car, hospital or theatre without an application of power electronic equipment. One of the major areas of applications of power electronics is the control of electric motors. For implementing any control, Programmable logic controllers (PLC)is largely used by industries today. This workshop is conducted for PG(Power Electronics) students. It may be useful for them for hardware implementation of their project works, if needed.

A programmable logic controller (PLC) is an industrial digital computer used for the control of manufacturing process, such as assembly lines, or robotic devices, or any activity that requires high reliability control and ease of programming and process fault diagnosis.PLC is standalone controlling device that can be programmed for any process. But, a PLC becomes inadequate when the control required is complex and fast with more number of inputs and outputs. There, a DSP based controller like dSPACE controller board is the option.

This workshop deals with Advance fields of power electronics application and drives including power quality issues, electric vehicles, distributed generation and storage. Hands –ON simulation and experimental demonstration is also scheduled.

Outcome

Deliver concepts of solar PV Plotter, Net metering, Arduino Board for PE Applications, Solar power MPPT Tracking with DC-DC Buck Converter
