The Department of Social Work, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus, conducted a Social Audit Workshop and Training for the MSW students & faculty members from April 1-3, 2019.

19 students of Amrita MSW 2017-19 batch participated in the social auditing of NREGA in the areas of in Sasthamcotta and Chavara in Kollam, Kerala. The students were trained in the social audits by the team from Kollam following which the fieldwork was conducted.

The activities included Focus Group Discussions, House Visit of Job Card Holders & Measurements at Work Sites. There was also an extensive audit of the documents associated with NREGA in Panchayat Offices in the respective area. The students also went through the documentation process thus reporting the auditing results.

Social Audit Fieldwork gave a new platform for social work trainee, with help of social audit fieldwork trainee got experience in conducting Social Audit. Through social audit trainee able to inform and educates people about their rights and entitlements and it helps to brings about transparency and accountability in government schemes. learned about various types of evidence and learn to build evidence for conducting an effective social audit process. As a social worker participating in social work will give more opportunities to stand for people’s rights and ensure their rights.
