The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore conducted a Workshop on Software Techniques for Analysis of Electrical Machines and Power Systems on September 17, 2018.
A workshop on Software techniques for the analysis of Electrical machines and power systems was conducted for B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering students. In this workshop, simulink models were introduced to students. Hands on training was given to students on application of Signal processing tools to fault detection in a transmission line. Students were given training on how to use the source, sink, transmission line. Creation of fault in a transmission line using simulink models was also demonstrated to the students.
Introduction of COMSOL software was demonstrated to students . COMSOL Multiphysics is a cross-platform finite element analysis, solver and multi physics simulation software. It allows conventional physics-based user interfaces and coupled systems of partial differential equations (PDEs). COMSOL provides an IDE and unified workflow for electrical, mechanical, fluid, acoustics and chemical applications. Beside the classical problems that can be addressed with application modules, the core Multiphysics package can be used to solve PDE in weak form .An API for Java and LiveLink for MATLAB may be used to control the software externally. An App Builder can be used to develop independent custom domain-specific simulation applications. Users may use drag-and-drop tools (Form Editor) or programming (Method Editor). COMSOL Server is a distinct software for the management of COMSOL simulation applications in companies.
Introduction to Ansys MAXwell’s software was demonstrated to the students. ANSYS Maxwell is the industry-leading electromagnetic field simulation software for the design and analysis of electric motors, actuators, sensors, transformers and other electromagnetic and electromechanical devices. With Maxwell, the nonlinear behavior of electrical machines can be characterized.
