Dr. Athira B currently, Asst. Professor at School of Computing, Department of CS&IT, Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham, Kochi. She is a member of the Board of Studies for MCA and BCA Data Science Programs and guides one Ph.D. candidates at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in the area of Health Informatics.

Dr. Athira B received his Ph. D. in Computer Science  from Cochin University of Science and technology (CUSAT), Kochi, Kerala. She has done her MTech in Software Engineering from CUSAT and MSc in Information Technology from Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, Hosur, Periyar University Tamil Nadu. She has 8 years of teaching experience at Masters level, of which 6 years in MTech at CUSAT and 4 years in research.

Her research interests are Data analytics, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Her interest in new technologies in Computer Science and decision to enhance her career, is the outcome of her research interest in AI. As our lives become more linked with technology, how much new technology can aid the common man to make his life easier? Her research work was on Health Informatics area and on Thesis Titled “A Deep Learning Based Patient-centric Health Recommender System from Patients’ Posts in Online Health Community Forums”. The research was in collaboration with one of the schools, School of Computing and Informatics, of Indiana University, USA. In particular, collaborated with BioHealth Informatics Department of the School. She also had the wonderful opportunity to intern with the department for three months. Working closely with them helped in understanding the data set, labelling it, and validating the final outcome.
