Bio

Dr. Harilal Parasuram, currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the Amrita Advanced Centre for Epilepsy (AACE), Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, India, has played a crucial role in establishing the research laboratory since 2019. Before ascending to this role, he served as a Post-doctoral fellow at AACE from 2017 to 2019. His academic credentials are robust, with a Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience from Amrita University, Kollam, Kerala, and a Master of Science in Bioinformatics.

His research interests are multifaceted, predominantly focusing on epileptogenic zone localization through advanced techniques like Stereo EEG, HD-EEG, and electrical source localization, as well as SISCOM and Voxel Based Morphometry. Dr. Harilal Parasuram is also deeply engaged in the development of wearable medical devices and the integration of Artificial Intelligence in medicine and open-source tool development.

His work has been acknowledged with prestigious fellowships from the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research and the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. He also received multiple certificates of appreciation from Amrita University and was honored with travel awards for international academic endeavors.

He has been invited to deliver talks at various prestigious institutions and conferences, where he has shared his insights on topics ranging from epileptogenic zone localization to detailed mathematical modeling of neuronal population activity.

Dr. Harilal Parasuram’s career is a testament to his dedication and significant contributions to computational neurology, particularly in epilepsy research.

Education and Academic Background

  • Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience from Amrita University, where he conducted pioneering research on neuronal excitability in the granular layer ensembles of the cerebellum, using local field potential (LFP) modeling.

Current Role

Currently,  he is an esteemed Assistant Professor and in-charge of the Brain Mapping Research Lab associated with Amrita Advanced Center for Epilepsy and the Department of Neurology.
