Bio

Dr. Yogesh Velankar earned his Ph.D. in Engineering Education from Purdue University, USA; a unique and first of its kind doctoral program in the world. He holds a M.S. in Electrical Engineering, and M.Ed. in Mathematics Education as an Instructional Specialist, both from The University of Texas at El Paso, USA. His B.E. is in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Mumbai University, India. Dr. Velankar has also held high school Mathematics Teacher Certificate in the U.S., and is a Six Sigma Green Belt holder. Dr. Velankar is an All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) empanelled expert on India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. AICTE has also nominated Dr. Velankar as a Margdarshak (i.e. Mentor), with an aim to mentor and enable Technical Education Institutions to achieve Accreditation by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and enhance the quality of technical education.
Previously, Dr. Velankar has worked in the U.S. and India in multinational and diverse organizations such as Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, KLE Technological University, Indo Universal Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE), Infosys, Caterpillar, Schlumberger, and others. His industrial experiences include strategic talent management, competency and knowledge management, workplace learning, training, and professional development. Dr. Velankar also has academic leadership, administration, research, teaching and service experience across various educational levels in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Humanities, Social Sciences, Management and Leadership domains.

Dr. Yogesh Velankar has actively provided consultancy, advisory and mentoring services to various stakeholders (e.g. students, faculty, academic leaders and administrators, policy makers, industry etc.) in the educational ecosystem at all levels. Dr. Velankar has contributed significantly in capacity building initiatives enabling Institutions in their growth, development and transformational journey towards becoming world class. For instance, Dr. Velankar has been consulting for Inter University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE), Varanasi; an Autonomous Apex Institute of Teacher Education under University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. Through IUCTE, Dr. Velankar has contributed to developing the implementation roadmap for the National Education Policy 2020. Dr. Velankar has also provided expert consultation on the post draft of India’s 5th Science, Technology, Innovation Policy – 2021, an initiative spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.

Dr. Yogesh Velankar has been selected by MoE as a Mentor and Performance Auditor under the third phase of Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP – III); a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India with support from the World Bank. He has contributed as an expert resource person for various capacity building initiatives under TEQIP – III. Dr. Velankar has also contributed pan-India as an expert resource person and consultant for various centres under MoE’s signature scheme of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) and UGC – Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs). For instance, Dr. Velankar has contributed significantly for faculty induction/orientation programs and for the Leadership for Academicians Program (LEAP), an initiative under the PMMMNMTT Scheme to develop the next generation of Higher Education Leaders.

Dr. Yogesh Velankar has contributed as a Keynote/Plenary Speaker/Panelist in several national and international conferences and has provided thought leadership through various professional forums globally. Dr. Velankar has also been a member of the Academic Council and Course Coordinator for the course entitled ‘Information and Communications Technology for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education’ at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal, which has been designated as a National Resource Centre (NRC) for offering Annual Refresher Program in Teaching (ARPIT) through the MOOC platform SWAYAM. Dr. Velankar is a member of IEEE and also member of the Engineering Education Board of Society of Automotive Engineers India (SAEINDIA).
