Dr. Lakshmi Sumitra V. joined ACNSMM in 2011. She did her post-graduation in Biotechnology followed by Ph. D. in Virology and Plant Biotechnology at Paichai University, South Korea, with scholarship from Korean Research Foundation. During her doctoral studies her work included edible vaccines, gene silencing, transgenic and transient expression in plants. She was also involved in viral vectors and protein expression studies. She went on to do Post-doctoral research in the Structural Biology Lab of Dr. Imre Berger, at European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Grenoble, France. During this period, she was involved in the development of new vector system for expression of recombinant multiprotein complexes in Insect cells using Baculoviruses [MultiBac system].
Presently at ACNSMM, Dr. Lakshmi Sumitra heads the Genetic Engineering and Eukaryotic Expression Facility with research focus on Biotechnology, Protein therapeutics, Transient and Transgenic expression in prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems, Gene delivery systems, and Diagnostics.
