Dr. P. K. Giridharan currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Chennai Campus, India.
Dr. P. K. Giridharan has 26 years of teaching and research experience. He obtained his undergraduate degree in AMIE-Mechanical Engineering (GATE qualified, 1990) and ME in Production Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. He completed his Ph.D. in Welding and Weld Corrosion at Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, in 2006.
Taken leadership roles such as Head (UG/PG and Ph.D. programs), Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu (36-year-old autonomous institution); also, as the Principal of a highly reputed institution in Chennai and in Abu Road, Rajasthan; been involved in various developmental activities of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, from the very inception of the institution, for nearly thirteen years; worked as a Project Associate at FRP Research Centre, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.
Has more than 40 publications in high impact international journals and conferences; Guided Ph.D. scholars and several U.G/P.G Engineering student projects; been a Doctoral Committee member for Ph.D. scholars of Anna University, Chennai; and is a Reviewer for Elsevier Journals for Materials & Design, Composites -Part B and Journal of Cleaner Productions.
Received funded projects from DRDO, AICTE, etc.; carried out Industrial Research projects for MNCs and local companies; taken an active role as Chairman for Board of Studies for UG/PG and Ph.D. programs in Mechanical Engineering at many institutions and brought in innovative changes in their curricula and syllabi. Special Invitee member of the Advisory Board for Post Graduate Diploma in Design Engineering for Oil & Gas Industry of M/s Cameron Manufacturing (India) Ltd., (Now it is Slumberger Ltd. UK). Also chaired several technical sessions at national and international conferences.
Areas of research interest are Welding, Corrosion, Material Characterization, Composites Materials, Surface Engineering and Nanocomposites, Nanotechnology, Additive Manufacturing, Robotics, and Automations.
