Dr. R. Prakash currently serves as an Assistant Professor (Sr. Gr.) at the Department of Mathematics, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Chennai campus.

Dr. Prakash completed his MSc, MPhil and Ph. D. degrees from the Ramanujan Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, University of Madras. He received the NBHM Research Award for pursuing Ph. D., under the guidance of Prof. K. Parthasarathy (Former Director and Head, RIASM).  His Ph. D. thesis was on the emerging area of Abstract Harmonic Analysis - Spectral Synthesis on Nonabelian Groups, which he defended in 2007. He passed the UGC-CSIR National Eligibility Test in 2002. He was also awarded an NBHM Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2007 and spent six months as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai. Subsequently, he served as a Pacific Institute of Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) Postdoctoral Fellow, a prestigious Fellowship, at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, for a year, under the mentorship of Prof. A T M Lau, an eminent mathematician. He then joined the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Thiruvananthapuram, as an Assistant Professor (December 2009 - September 2011). Prior to joining ASE, Chennai campus, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, College of Science, Jazan University, Saudi Arabia (September 2011 - June 2021).

Dr. Prakash has published five research papers in well-known national and international journals. Most of his works have been referred in the recent reputed research monograph, E Kaniuth and A T M Lau, Fourier and Fourier-Stieltjes Algebras on Locally Compact Groups (American Mathematical Society, Surveys in Mathematics, 2018). He is a life-member of the Indian Mathematical Society.
