Bio

Dr. Hemalatha Venkataraman joined the department of OB & HR at the Amrita School of Business in July 2021. Prior to that, she was a Fellow and Ph.D. candidate of the Nijmegen School of Management, Radboud University, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. In her Ph.D. dissertation, Hemalatha used an interdisciplinary approach to examine the extent to which women’s multiple embeddedness in their broader social context enables or constrains their entrepreneurial activities, and the role of organizations in facilitating economic, and normative social change in rural India. Hemalatha has presented papers at the Academy of Management Conference (AOM), USA, and at the European Group of Organization Studies (EGOS). She has published in the journal Organization Studies. Hemalatha has worked with organizations both within India and abroad. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in north and south India on a number of issues encompassing women’s entrepreneurship, psychosocial care, and the domestic, social & economic realms of women’s lives. Her research interests lie broadly with issues on gender equality, diversity/ inclusion, inequality/ hierarchy; health and wellbeing and the role of organizing; women’s entrepreneurship; social innovations in developing countries and their impact on families, esp. women, and issues related to sustainability.

Her research interests lie broadly with issues on gender equality, diversity/inclusion inequality/hierarchy, ways of organizing, institutional theory, and sustainability.
