Dr. Shreehari V. G.

Dr. Shreehari V. G. currently serves as Assistant Professor at Amrita Darshanam – International Centre for Spiritual Studies at Chennai campus. He holds a doctoral degree in Chandaśśāstra from Deccan College. His doctoral thesis “A Comprehensive Study of Few Metres from the View of Poetic” was completed under the supervision of Dr. Vinaya Kshirasagar. Prior to that, he completed his M. Phil. in Chandaśśāstra at Y.C.M.O.U. through K. J. Somaiya Bharatiya Sanskriti Peetham, Mumbai. He completed his Masters from Kavi Kulguru Kalidas Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya and from the University of Mumbai specialized in Vyākaraṇaśāstra.

Before joining Amrita, he has worked as a Visiting Faculty at Bharat College of Fine Arts and Culture, Mumbai, for fourteen years. He has also worked with the renowned Bharatnatyam exponent Dr. Sandhya Purecha on manuscript translation at Sarfojiraje Bhosale Bharatnatyam Training and Research Centre during the same period.

He has been delivering a number of lectures on Vyākaraṇaśāstra and Chandaśśāstra at various institutes, colleges and universities since 2002. He enjoys composing songs, stotras and poems in Sanskrit, Marathi and Hindi, and his poems and articles are often published in several Sanskrit periodicals and magazines such as Gunjarava, Girvanasudha and Saparpanam, etc. His Sanskrit poem on monsoon season entitled “Varshakalah” is published in Maharashtra State Board Textbook of std. VIII. Many of his translated songs and compositions are available on Youtube channel “SANSKRITSHREE”. He is also a member of the Board of Studies (BOS) in the Maharashtra State Board Committee for framing the textbooks of std. VIII, IX and X.
