Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a multi-disciplinary, research-intensive, university, ranked as the ‘No.1 in India’ as per THE Impact Rankings-2021 and ‘5th best University in India’ by NIRF-2021. Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications (AmritaWNA) at Amritapuri campus is a research center renowned for developing solutions to real-world problems benefiting society at large.

The Center is inviting applications from motivated faculty and researchers as Junior Research Fellow.

Some of the outstanding projects from the center are as follows,

  • IoT based Landslide Monitoring & Early Warning in Western Ghats and Himalayas: As part of this project, AmritaWNA has deployed the world’s first IoT based system incorporating many features such as fault-tolerance, scalability, security, etc in Western Ghats and North-East Himalayas. The center is also conferred twice as the “World Center of Excellence for Landslide Risk Reduction” in 2017 and 2020. Landslide research at Amrita is an end to end research incorporating interactions and requirements from interdisciplinary teams. The project members work with researchers from other disciplinary backgrounds to fulfill the needs of a robust, resilient landslide monitoring and early warning system.
  • Landslip: A consortium project which includes partners from UK, Italy, India that aimed to build real-time landslide early warnings for Darjeeling and Nilgiris in India.
  • Flood evac: A project that provides an assessment of the vulnerability of transportation structures, warning and evacuation of communities in case of inland flooding.
  • Jivamritam: Providing access to clean drinking water project implementation in 5000 villages across India.
  • Ocean net: which provides better internet connectivity to marine fishing boats a networking solution that provides Internet signal to fishing boats even when they are over 60 kilometers at sea (which is 45 kilometers beyond the range of cell-phone towers). This system is developed for commercial fishermen who regularly spend five to seven consecutive days in the sea without any connectivity.
  • Amrita Spandanam: A low-cost, low-power wearable ECG-monitoring monitoring framework that utilizes wireless body sensors, mobile phones and web browsers for monitoring cardiac patients who are in remote areas.
  • Amoha: We focus on creating a 3D reconstruction framework that enables preserving structures in a dilapidated condition and digitally restores them to their original grandeur. ..
  • Lemongrass Oil Distillation: Project that helped tribal villagers in Kerala to bring in a source of revenue and empower their village. This project implemented a solar thermal powered lemongrass essential-oil distilleries, sustainably reviving a generations-old source of income.

Requirements • Hydrology, Geology, Geotechnology, Meteorology, disciplines to work in the area of multihazard, landslides, floods, climate change, etc.
• Artificial intelligence and Machine learning disciplines to work in real-world applications like Smart city, Energy, Water, Healthcare, Natural hazards, and Extreme environments.
• 5G Advanced and 6G such as Mission Critical Services, Cell Free MiMo, Reflecting Intelligent Surfaces, Local Community Networks, Intelligent Connectivity and so on.
• Smart Healthcare, O-RAN, Blockchain Networks, UAV, Affordable Connectivity, Wireless communication & Networking, Seismic signal processing, Signal processing, etc.
• Hardware design (Analog, Mixed signal and Board Layout), Flexible / Stretchable electronics, Sensor and Antenna design, Embedded systems engineer, PCB design engineer, etc.
• Software programmers: Developers well versed in C, C++, Python or other object oriented languages. Familiarity with *nix environments (command line utilities, SSH, Server/Client applications, etc).
• Mixed reality, Computer graphics, Computer vision, Python, C, C++, C#, Unity3D, Linear Algebra, Projection transforms to work on Augmented reality projects. Developers with keen interest to work with Microsoft Hololens frameworks.
• Ethnographic researcher, Human Centered Design (HCD), to work in Application of HCD for User Need Assessment, Solution ideation, Initiating solution design, guiding students in the villages to conduct HCD based data generation and analysis, Policy and Governance, etc.
