Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is one of the fastest growing multi-campus, multi-disciplinary Universities in India, with a total of 17,000 students, 1700 faculty members, more than 200 funded research projects, about 20 centers of international excellence in various fields, and active ongoing international collaborative activities with more than 30 eminent universities in America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.

When it comes to using science and technology for heritage preservation, chemical preservation and civil restoration methods have been extensively researched. In the last decade, one of the thrust areas of the government of India has been digital preservation of our heritage. Digital preservation has several facets such as textual description, photographs, videos, 3D scans etc. Books and digital displays have been the primary medium to access these resources. Technologies like augmented reality and virtual reality makes it very viable to take this effort forward and provide different users with immersive viewing experience. We propose a framework for AR heritage tour which recreates a relevant historic scenario in situ. In line with this primary goal, our objectives are threefold:
A framework for 3D reconstruction enabling digital restoration of dilapidated structures
Augmented Reality 3D tour with superimposition of 3D models generation from objective and enactment of historic events with 3D animation
Interfaces to interact with the digital objects triggering animations depicting functionalities and structural changes. This generic platform can also be used by researchers, historians, architects, civil engineers, etc.
