Over 150 alumni from the Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Mysore, came together at their old alma mater for the Second Annual Alumni Meet on January 21, 2012.
Subramanya who now works in Tata Consultancy Services, Subeesh employed as a system administrator and Chethan working with digital marketing, among others, reminisced about their times on campus.
While Subeesh recalled how he had participated in a mime show while studying at Amrita, Chethan remarked that he now missed his old friends and teachers.
Subramanya gratefully thanked the Amrita team for organizing the event.
Others suggested that the alumni meet could be organized more often.
“The meet can be organized twice a year,” suggested Sharath, who graduated from Amrita with a BCA (Bachelors in Computer Applications) in 2010.
Sharath is now successfully running his own business; he credited Amrita with having moulded him into a successful entrepreneur.
Several students commented on the lasting impact that Amrita had on their lives.
Menaka, also a 2010 BCA grad, now working as Operations Manager with a software firm in Bengaluru remarked, “Amrita helped me inculcate values in my life. The inspirational speeches I heard on this campus are unforgettable.”
Continuing down the nostalgic path, and reliving old memories, the Amrita alumni recalled moments of fun and frolic they had experienced at the Mysore campus.
There were several interesting suggestions. A few alumni requested yoga and meditation sessions for their corporate colleagues, similar to the ones that had had the opportunity to attend, while at Amrita.
The alumni expressed their willingness to invite speakers, or themselves come back to campus to share their experiences, interact with and otherwise mentor current student batches.
They welcomed an opportunity to sponsor the education of a few students, who otherwise could not attend college.
Earlier, at the inaugural event, Dr. Mahesh Rao, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science, Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering, Mysore, who was the Chief Guest for the occasion, talked about the need for a strong alumni network.
Also elaborating on the challenges entrepreneurs face, he said, “Every failure takes us one step closer to success.”
The rest of the program included several colourful and vibrant cultural performances.
