Amrita Faculty to Chair Technical Sessions
July 12, 2009
The 2009 World Congress in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Applied Computing (WORLDCOMP’09) is supposedly the world’s largest annual gathering of researchers. Over twenty international conferences such as those on Bioinformatics, Internet Computing, Security, Computer Graphics, Wireless Networks are all conducted simultaneously so as to promote interdisciplinary exchange of ideas. The conference organizers have invited Amrita’s Dr. Maneesha Ramesh to chair two sessions in the International Conference on Wireless Networks.
Dr. Maneesha leads Amrita’s Indo-European research center for wireless networks. The center has deployed the first-ever wireless sensor network for predicting landslides in the hilly, landslide-prone area of Munnar in northern Kerala. The European partners who were recently in Amrita for a visit to the deployment site have expressed their satisfaction at the research work completed. (see news). During the course of the project, Dr. Maneesha and her team members published several journal papers as well as made presentations in conferences around the world. This year, Dr. Maneesha has been invited to chair sessions broadly pertaining to this area of research.
Dr. Maneesha will chair her first session on Day 2 of the conference. She will share her responsibilities with co-chair Prof. Yenumula B. Reddy from Grambling State University, USA. This session on Sensor Networks will also have two papers (see below) presented by research associates from Dr. Maneesha’s team in Amrita. The other speakers will be from universities in Korea, Taiwan, Spain in addition to USA.
A little later the same day, Dr. Maneesha will co-chair with Dr. Natarajan Meghanathan from Jackson State University, USA, a session on Protocols + Energy Efficiency. This session will have speakers from universities such as Tokai University (Japan), University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Soongsil University (Korea), Chungwoon University (Korea), Azad University (Iran) and Visveswaraya Technological University (India).
