Dr. D. Praveen, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, has been honoured with a grant for his research initiative Studies on Cathode Materials for all Solid State Ion Batteries. The research grant, Seed Money to Young Scientist for Research (SMYSR) is sponsored by the Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), Government of Karnataka.
SMYSR was envisaged by the Government of Karnataka to promote scientific research among faculty members working in colleges, universities and research institutions in the state. The grant provides seed money to young and promising researchers to establish an early career in the field of research.
Dr. Praveen is privileged to be one among the thirty faculty members short listed from the state of Karnataka to receive this prestigious grant.
He will be receiving a funding of Rs. 5, 45, 000 for a period of one year to pursue his research and studies on cathode materials for solid state batteries.
The development of ion batteries is of huge importance for the storage of energy. Lithium ion batteries, despite being promising candidates possess a major disadvantage by being explosive in nature.
Sodium ion batteries have the ability to replace lithium ion batteries. In this aspect, sodium based cathode materials need to be developed and they need to be checked for their compatibility with the existing electrolyte materials for usage as ion batteries.
The proposal focuses on development of sodium ion conducting batteries for their application as high energy density storage systems.
“It has always been a dream to establish my own research lab for extending my research activities after the completion of my Ph. D. This project makes my dream come true and also has filled in me new hopes and confidence to proceed further to achieve greater heights”, shared Dr. Praveen when asked about how he felt having received the grant.
