Researchers at Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine (ACNSMM), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi, utilized a small amount of cerebrospinal fluid and by using a specially developed sensitive proteomics technique, were able to detect a specific protein marker that appears to express itself in this fluid to indicate the presence of CNS Leukemia. Instead of treating all children of suspected CNS Leukemia, this allows to provide treatment for only those children having the disease. This will also saves many children from needless drug treatments.

Currently, a patent has been filed for this work by Dr. Krishnakumar Menon, Associate Professor, ACNS, Kochi and team (WO 2014108855 A1. US patent application PCT/IB2014/058167).
