The Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, hosted an evening of music, dance and entertainment to officially flag off the beginning of the annual cultural extravaganza Kalanjali 2017. The evening of 18th April 2017, witnessed a large crowd of faculty members and students for the annual festive night, Madnite, which marked the beginning of Kalanjali. 

Extending a multi-lingual welcome to the gathering, the members of Amritadhara, an ensemble of co curricular and extracurricular activities, began the merriment embracing the concept of unity in diversity. The instrumentalists of Raaga, the music club of Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore, energized the gathering with their prodigious display of instrumental dexterity. The musical night brought together all the talented musicians of the school, spellbinding the spectators, and Nemesis was one among them. Narthana, the dance club of the school, showcased versatility and fervour with their vibrant performances. The third year students paid a tribute to Amritadhara 2016-2017 grooving to all the hit numbers of another eventful year. Their show spread cheers of nostalgia wetting many eyes. 

Abhinaya, the drama club of the school, left the gathering in splits with their thoroughly entertaining fillers. Performed by the renowned artistes of the school, the filler shows were an epitome of creativity and sensible humor. Setting the stage for Amritotsava, the annual cultural celebrations of Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, Madnite signed off leaving behind indelible memories and tireless performances.

The dawn of 20th April 2017, witnessed the Institution Day of the school, Amritotsava ’17, a platform that rewards academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular achievements. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest from ISRO Dr. S. V. Sharma, the Director of Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore, Br. Dhanraj Swami, Associate Dean and Head, Dr. Rakesh S. G., and the Chairpersons of the Engineering Departments. Dr. T. S. B. Sudarshan, Chairman, Department of Computer Science and Engineering welcomed the gathering. Br. Dhanraj Swami, discussed on the importance of breaking the shackles from the stereotypic way of education and the contributions made in this area by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham under the able guidance of Chancellor Sadguru Mata Amritanandamayi Devi. Dr. Rakesh S. G., then presented the annual report in which he outlined the achievements of various departments of the school and the projects that were undertaken in the preceding year. He then also went on to summarize the accomplishments of students and staff.

Dr. S. Venkateshwara Sharma, Deputy Director, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bengaluru, was the honourable Chief Guest for this occasion and spoke about Education, and Ethics, and inspired the young minds to take the nation’s pride ahead. He highlighted the power of technology and its potential to provide a new dimension to the country’s prosperity. He then narrated his experiences associated with various launches of ISRO, and explained through them the importance of accepting failures and making the necessary corrections. The value of time and the significance of being content with one’s own achievements were conveyed to the audience in an efficacious way. Following this, the Chief Guest and the dignitaries launched the 8th edition of Sanchita, the school’s annual magazine. Members of the team were congratulated on producing the latest edition, and they secured certificates of appreciation.

The Academic Excellence Award and the Karthik Kalaichelvan Memorial Award were presented to the meritorious students. The office-bearers of Amritadhara and the student activities ensemble were also awarded with mementos for their contributions, and the winners of sports events received their medals and certificates.The Electronics and Communication Engineering Department emerged the overall winners and carried home the Champions Trophy. The event then drew to a close with Mr. Radhakrishnan G., Vice Chairman Department of Computer Science and Engineering, delivering the vote of thanks.The school witnessed Amritakalanjali’17 on 20th and 21st April 2017. The theme of the event, 'Gaming' gave rise to numerous creative events that were enthusiastically organised. Abhinaya, the Drama Club, performed their National award winning skit 'Emotikaun' which left the audience dazzled. 'Green Screen', 'Escape', 'Franchise Mania', 'Instrumental-Solo', 'Amrita’s Got Talent', 'Taboo', 'Eena Meena Deeka', 'Harley Quinn & The Joker Challenge', 'Mehendi Clash', 'It’s Just A Game', 'Sharp Shooter', and 'Miniature Painting' were some of the off-stage events organized by the various clubs on the first day. An eye-catching Big-picture art was displayed at the quadrangle region in the New Block while an art gallery was set up in the Yoga Hall. The yearly 'Tikki-Takka' tournaments, held at the playground, received much fanfare. The second day saw the events 'Group Dance', 'Teen Ka Tadka', 'Battle of the Bands', 'Mannequin Challenge', 'Dance Cover', 'Cooking Without Flame', 'Short film Screening', 'Sherlocked', 'Unscripted', 'Get the Cavalry', 'Face 2 Paint', 'State the STATE', 'One Man Army'. The students participated actively in all the games and events arranged. 'Game of Thrones', the flagship event of AK’17 which included a series of assessment rounds with stress interviews decided the winners of the titles Mr. Kalanjali and Ms. Kalanjali, Mr. Srinidhi V. Bhat (S2, Electronics and Communication Engineering Department) and Ms. Sheetal Rani Babu (S6, Electronics and Communication Engineering Department). The culmination of the two day fest left everyone with pleasant memories to carry with, making Kalanjali 2017 a grand success.
