Sarup Banskota, Third year student of B. Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore campus gave an oral presentation on Introduction to FOSS (Free Open Source Software) Techniques and GlitterGallery for Fedora Design Works at FOSSASIA 2014 held at Norton University in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from February 28 - March 2, 2014.
Sarup Banskota was selected based on his active participant and contribution to open source technology. He is an active member of Fedora Design team and a co-author of GlitterGallery, a design project of Fedora that aims to improve the state of designer-designer and designer-developer collaboration.
FOSSASIA 2014 is a prestigious Open Technology event for developers, students, and start ups featuring a number of Open Hardware projects. FOSSASIA 2014 focused on the use of open technologies in sustainable development in order to improve the lives and conditions of those living in poverty. FOSSASIA works together with Open Source projects in Asia and around the world and develops Free and Open Source software for social change and provide unique opportunity to share the latest innovations in open source technologies and meet contributors and potential partners.
Regarding Sarup’s work, he explained, “I am very eager to work in Open Source Technologies. I submitted many codes and design in open source Fedora project, co authored GlitterGallery which was a platform for designers to share their work, gather and parse feedback in a useful way, and version their work and also involved as a student of the Fedora Google Summer of Code Program.”
Sarup has mastered many programming languages and keeps an eye on the software horizon to stay with changing technologies. He is keenly interested in free open source software and developing open source applications.
“I would like to thank my seniors who conducted similar sessions when I was new to things. I encourage my juniors to participate in open source software projects and support the development of free software, immaterial of whether their interests are in programming, artwork, film making or advocacy,” Sarup shared.
