Amrita University Volunteers Clean Up Taluk Hospital, Karunagapally
“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” Yes, we realized the meaning of these beautiful words of the President of the United States, Barack Obama. It was on January 26, 2016, Amrita Sanjeevani, the seva association of Amritapuri campus, conducted a clean-up drive at Taluk Hospital, Karunagapally. Around 100 students along with staff members participated in the event. That was the day when Republic day celebration reached its pinnacle of greatness. Everyone was so much involved in doing their best and the event marked a complete success. Our task was cleaning the renovated block of the hospital which consisted of big rooms and toilets.
The event was officially launched in Amritapuri Campus on January 25 which included the inauguration of the clean-up drive by Dr. Balakrishnan Shankar, Associate Dean, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri campus and Dr. Jyothi S. N., Principal, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri. Enhancing the beauty of the program, the campus students performed a flash mob. There was a huge response from all over the campus for the program. We were overwhelmed with the blessings and encouragement from faculty members and students. It is very true that at the end of our lives, we will not be judged by how much money we have made, how many degrees we have attained or how many great things we have done. We will be judged by “I was hungry, and you gave me to eat, I was naked and you clothed me, I was homeless and you took me in.” If our actions could move at least a single heart or evoke patriotism in a few minds, it can make us satisfied. “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
