A team from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was at WITS University, South Africa on 4th April, 2017 for “Reaching the Unreached: Skills Development Policies and the Promise of ICT”, an ongoing South- South study, jointly undertaken by the Centre for Researching Education and Labour (REAL), University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, Network for International Policies and Cooperation in Education and Training (NORRAG), Genève, Switzerland and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham's AMMACHI Labs. It investigates the interplay between skills development and ICT policies and practices at national and local levels, focusing on marginalized populations in South Africa and India.

Rao R. Bhavani, Director of AMMACHI Labs, speaking about the novel approach of the scoping study between REAL, AMMACHI Labs, and NORRAG in the broader perspective of South-South collaboration, said, "There are common challenges to countries that are in the south. It makes sense to look at it in different scenarios and then figure out what the real strengths are and how you can actually leverage them."

In 2016, NORRAG developed a new collaboration with AMMACHI Labs, involving the launch of South-South study. This study will specifically explore informal sectors with respect to training and employment, TVSD policies and funding in the informal sector and the interplay between ICT and TVSD policies and practices in the formal and informal sectors of India and Africa.VIDEO: Associate Professor Rao R.
