The second continuing urological education, CUE 2011, was organized at Amrita’s Health Sciences campus during March 26 – 27. This annual program is viewed as a means for final-year postgraduate students to prepare for their examinations.

It also offers a platform to them to iron out clinical deficiencies.

Convened by the Department of Urology in association with the Kochi Urology Club, this one-and-half day program attracted postgraduate students from all over the country.

“The teaching program involved clinical case discussions with mock exams in the form of case scenarios and a few lectures on related specialties,” stated Dr. Balagopal Nair, Associate Professor at the Department of Urology.

CUE provided an overview of current concepts in urology focusing on subspecialties such as urological oncology, laparoscopic urology, endourology, andrology, female urology, neuro-urology and reconstructive urology.

“We found these sessions immensely useful. The faculty contributed immensely on subjects not covered routinely in textbooks,” stated the participants.

Special emphasis was laid on topics in urological oncology. Amrita has a highly skilled team for the care of urological cancers. The Department of Urology provides multimodality treatment involving the services of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, state-of-the-art radiology equipment, pathology and nuclear medicine, all under one roof.
