Deakin University is one of Australia’s fastest growing research universities. After its founding in 1974, the university has been recognized as the Australian University of the Year twice.

The Australian University received this honor for outstanding use of technology in education and outstanding partnerships for education and training. With over 41,000 students, the university has campuses in the coastal cities of Geelong, Melbourne and Warrnambool, Victoria.

Deakin actively pursues research and educational partnerships in India. Last month, the Australian University signed an MoU with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

The MoU was signed on behalf of Amrita by Dr. V. S. Somanath, Dean, Amrita School of Business and Dr. Bipin Nair, Dean, Amrita School of Biotechnology.

Dr. Jane den Hollander, Vice Chancellor of Deakin University signed on behalf of Deakin.

The MoU will facilitate joint research and academic programs in business innovation, life and environmental sciences, molecular and medical research, engineering and educational futures.

Two doctoral students from Amrita will be able to pursue their studies and research projects in the Australian University. They will be given a stipend to cover living expenses in Australia and will not be charged any tuition fees.

Ms. Shobhana Madhavan from the Amrita School of Business will be the first participant in this program.

This new partnership will expand the global reach of the Amrita School of Business. The School already has strong collaborations with the State University of New York, Buffalo and offers a dual-degree MBA-MS program in partnership with the US university at its Bangalore campus.

MoU Signed With Deakin UniversityOther partnerships are also in place in the areas of smart environment and intelligent systems, public policy and innovation.

“We seek global collaborations for mutual benefit in research and teaching,” stated Dr. Somanath, speaking on behalf of the School of Business.

Amrita University is said to be India’s only private university with extensive partnerships with the best international universities including Berkeley, Harvard, Princeton and Purdue. A lot of emphasis is laid on international student/faculty exchange program and collaborative research that benefits society.
