A team of Pathologists and Hospital Administrations Experts, in a study based on the present situation have said that nearly 63% of people among the Kerala population will be totally safe if they adhere to social distancing and ‘break the chain’ initiatives. They based the analysis on a formula to calculate effective contact cases, which is the key identified reason for spread of coronavirus. “We were looking at the burden on the hospital infrastructure vis-à-vis social distancing based on a mathematical calculation. The effective contact cases is calculated by multiplying transmissibility into the average number of exposed people,” said Dr. Dinesh Nair, Head of Department of Hospital Administration, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AIMS), Kochi.
