Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences treated nine girls and a boy, from Uganda, who were suffering from congenital heart problems. The children were brought to India and operated under the Rotary International's Gift of Life program which provides treatment to children from economically disadvantaged families in low and middle income countries from around the world. Dr P.K Brijesh, heart surgeon, who operated the children said, "Along with cardiac surgery, we treated few children for other ailments too when we realised that they will not get a second chance to visit a hospital".
