Amrita University today joined a league of six Indian innovators who would contribute to an ambitious health project in the country, as the multi-campus university has been chosen to develop the proposed project which would facilitate the availability of decontaminated water and improve the conditions of sanitation in India. The Amrita School of Biotechnology located in the Amritapuri Campus of Amrita University in Kerala was formally given the go-ahead for carrying out its role in the ‘Reinvent the Toilet Challenge: India’- a collaborative effort of the US-based Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under Ministry of Science and Technology, along with the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) which is a Government of India Enterprise.
