Shreya Siddanagowda, transplanted hands now match her skin tone, mystifying the doctors who performed the 13-hour procedure. The procedure was done by a team of doctors led by Dr. Subramania Iyer K., Head of Department, Department of Head & Neck Surgery, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi and it was the first upper double-arm transplant in all of Asia. Dr. Iyer revealed that the color of Shreya’s hands quickly began to show a lot of change. “It could be because of MSH, a brain-controlled hormone that stimulates melanin production. We are wondering if MSH levels can really influence the skin color," he said.
