Dr. Warren Breidenbach, Chief of Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery at the University of Arizona, who led the world’s first hand transplant and Dr. Vijay Gorantla, Administrative Medical Director of the Pittsburgh Reconstructive Transplant Program at the University of Pittsburgh, who has done five hand transplants visited Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) Kochi to review the results of the first ever hand transplant surgery in India that took place on January 13, 2015. The transplant team was led by Dr. Subramaniam Iyer, Professor and Chairman of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, AIMS, Kochi.
