B.Sc Physician Assistant is an Undergraduate Program offered by Amrita Center for Allied Health Sciences.
Physician Assistants are formally trained to provide diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive health care services in virtually all medical specialties, as delegated by a physician. Working as members of a health care team, they take medical histories, initial examination of the patients, order for laboratory tests and x-rays and assist the doctors for diagnosis and treatment. They also handle minor injuries by suturing, splinting and casting. This is a primary course for the post of Physician Assistant. There is ample scope for students to do postgraduation and Doctorate in this branch of science.
The Physician Assistants work in different departments such as Out-Patient wing, Operation theater, Catheterization labs, Coronary care units, Intensive care units, Organ Transplant units, Reproductive Medicine, Orthopaedics and trauma care, Radiation therapy unit and Nuclear Medicine.
The scope of this course is tremendous in our country. Apart from working as PA, they get placements in medical software institutions, pharmaceutical industry and organizations developing and marketing sophisticated medical devices, medical tourism, and medical insurance. Besides, they will be appointed as coordinators for various clinical trials.
The Physician assistants is engaged In the outpatient wing, in wards and critical care units, in operation theaters and other super specialty units like CVTS, Endocrinology, Pulmonology, GI Surgery, Head and Neck and Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Urology, Oncology etc.
