M. Tech. in Smart Sensing Communication and Networking Technologies is a program offered at School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri campus. Mobile networks have been evolving rapidly with an exponential increase in scale and data rates. MEMS / NEMS sensor systems have advanced tremendously. Internet of Things will result in millions of interconnected nodes.

5G will integrate cellular, Wi-Fi and IoT networks and enable many new applications. In order to prepare students for such applications of the future, we have designed a masters programme covering the state of the art in smart sensing and networking. This MTech programme is intended to generate trained academic and industry research personnel in the highly demanding, useful and emerging areas of smart sensor design, communication technologies and IoT systems. The programme includes core subjects from sensor design, Wireless Communication, Networking Technologies, Embedded Systems IoT systems, Machine Learning and Big Data Analytics.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should have any of the following, scoring a minimum of 60% with a pass. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology (including the final year students awaiting the results) Master’s degree in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications  Professional Society Examinations recognised by MHRD / UPSC / AICTE equivalent to B.E. / B.Tech / B. Arch.

Scope of the Program

This M.Tech program is being introduced with a view to strengthening the academic and research activities in diversified areas such as Precision Agriculture, Environmental Monitoring, Smart Energy Systems, Oceanography, Disaster Management and so on. Students graduating from this programme will be well trained to enter into a broad spectrum of research and development activities associated with the above mentioned areas apart from the industries catering to computers, communication networks, sensors/actuators design and IoT systems. Students will also be able to enter into academic activities in academic institutions or national labs connected with these areas.

Learning Outcomes

  • Design smart sensors required for various applications such as agriculture, energy, water, environment, bio-medical, defence, oceanography.
  • Implement sensors based embedded systems covering both hardware and software.
  • Design hardware and firmware to process sensor signals.
  • Study of noise reduction or cancellation techniques for sensor signals.
  • In-depth knowledge in cutting-edge sensing technologies such as MEMS, NEMS, flex circuits, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of cutting-edge networking technologies such as LTE/5G, WiFi 6, etc.
  • Design IoT or NB-IoT systems which use low power wide area technologies for various applications.
  • Mathematical modelling and validation of the designed systems.
  • Ability to independently carry out research /investigation and development work to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to author and present a substantial technical report/document.
