Microbial reduction of 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one (1) and hydrolysis of (±)-sulcatol acetate (4) yielded (S)-(+)-sulcatol (2) and (R)-(-)-sulcatol (5) respectively using Rhizopus arrhizus.
