Abstract:

The corrosion vapor inhibition efficiency (IE) of five essential oils was investigated for mild steel in seawater, rainwater, sulfur dioxide (SO 2), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) environments by weight loss and electrochemical methods. The highest IE was observed in all the tests at an inhibitor concentration of4%. The tests also indicated that the five oils act as mixed inhibitors but cathodic inhibition was more predominant. The surface of the specimens was investigated using scanning electron microscopy.
