Abstract:

Internet of things is a set of networked objects such as sensors, actuators and processors that connect together for collaboratively performing a task. IoT gateways are the entities which serve as a connection point between the lower end (edge) devices with powerful data centers. IoT gateways not only communicate with these heterogeneous devices, but also perform different functions for achieving the computational task. This survey paper studies the various functions of IoT gateways, its software architecture and communication protocols. This paper also mentions few design challenges for IoT gateways.
