'Athithi devo bhava'-is a verse from the Taittiriya Upanishad, and it means 'Guest is God'. India is a country well known for its hospitality, culture and attractive destinations. Tourism is the biggest service industry in India in terms of its GDP and as a provider of employment opportunity. In worldwide ranking as well India is ranked highly in tourism and related activities. Changing life style and increase in income levels have led to increased frequency of travelling among Indian people. This study helps in identifying the factors that influence the frequency of travel among Indian tourists. A questionnaire was used to collect data from people residing in metros and non metros and the results were analyzed using an ordered logistic regression. Results revealed that different dimensions of self and personality concepts like 'exciting', 'colorless' had an impact on travel frequency. The research is unique and it intends to find out the impact of personality on the travel behavior of an Indian tourist. The paper studies the impact of personality traits on the travel behavior of a tourist.
