Until recently coconut plucking job conventionally was taken up by socially and economically backward people in these areas. Due to various government welfare programs and increase in literacy, the number of people taking up this job has dwindled a lot which is one of the main reasons resulting in increase in the price of coconuts. 

  • Flow Patterns of Oil-Water Immiscible Liquid Mixtures in Small and Microchannels

  • KaraChara is used in the rehabilitation and therapy of patients with paralysis due to stroke or spinal cord injury. The design consists of dual control mechanisms for the efficient operation of a Hand Orthosis device, which includes Electrooculogram (EOG) based control and Graphical User Interface (GUI) based control. Physiotherapists can train the patients at initial stages and patients themselves can start using without the need for Physiotherapists later. A patent has been filed for the same and is expected by the end of this year.

  • Envenomation incapacitates the snake’s prey by interfering with specific aspects of physiological function such as nerve transmission and hemostasis.  Since the action of venom components is highly specific, many venom components may also have the potential of being employed pharmaceutically. Viper venom affects predominantly aspects of the coagulation pathway.  The conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin is a central part of the coagulation and clotting mechanism and hence another project in the lab is focusing on the isolation of proteases capable of altering or degrading fibrinogen and on the modulation of their proteolytic activity by small molecules and phytochemicals. 

  • Amrita engineering students built a formula car for SUPRA SAE, a global competition organized by the Society for Automotive Engineers (SAE). The contest was organized last year in Chennai, for the first time in India. The Amritapuri campus of Amrita University participated and the 23-member student team was the only one selected from Kerala.

  • Paripreksya 3.0 is a tele-operated UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) developed at HuT Labs.It is a light weight robot capable of doing complex maneuvering, mobility and dexterity tasks. The robot typically consists of a mobile base and a manipulator.

  • India is the second largest populated country in the world with more than 1.3 billion people having diverse culture, languages, food habits and tastes etc. Rice is a common staple food consumed by people all over India. A variety of food items can be prepared with rice including rice flakes, idly, appam, dosa etc. Of all these, dosa is one of the most popular dishes in India, usually consumed as breakfast and sometimes even as dinner.

  • Endothelium helps in maintaining vascular tone by regulating the vascular permeability. It selectively allows only certain molecules to cross the endothelial barrier. A large number of micro and macro vascular complications are associated with endothelial dysfunction in diabetes including cardiovascular disease, stroke and peripheral vascular diseases.

  • As the meaning of the name corresponds to a robot which is automated in wall painting, this is a robot which can paint the interior walls of a room autonomously. The robot has a controlled movement in all the four directions without rotating the base of the robot by making use of the mecanum wheels. It also has three Ultrasonic sensors which helps the robot to move in a controlled way following the walls of a room.

  • Oxidative stress refers to the physiological stress caused by an imbalance between the systemic production of reactive oxygen species and the biological system's ability to detoxify the reactive intermediates. It is a condition where the system lacks its ability to repair the damage due to oxidative stress and thus leading to a number of diseases.
