The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru was established in 2004 under Amrita Vishwa Vidya Peetham. The Department offers a B.Tech degree program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The Department also runs an M.Tech. degree program in Power Electronics from the academic year 2010-11. It also offers Doctoral degree programs in different areas of Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
The Department has a combined faculty of experienced persons from industry and academia as well as a team of young teachers who contribute immensely to the establishment of necessary infrastructure and procedures for conducting an undergraduate program. The faculty profile comprises of personnel with doctorates, postgraduation in various fields and undergraduate qualifications to meet the curriculum requirements. Faculty members are encouraged to enhance their qualifications, by participation in higher studies and research activities.
The curriculum and course delivery are flexible, meeting industry requirements. This is reflected by the outstanding number of students who are selected at the end of their third year for employment in reputed companies.
The Department is housed in spacious blocks consisting of a Electrical Machines Laboratory, Power Electronics Laboratory, Measurement and Circuits Laboratory, Electrical Workshop and Simulation Laboratory, all sufficiently furnished with the latest equipment and software. Classrooms, seminar room, staff room and department library for reference reading provide areas for learning and study.
The Department assists weaker students by giving guidance and counseling, enabling them to enhance their learning abilities. During winter and summer vacations, students are motivated to do project work covering real life applications. This, in turn, builds potential and confidence to solve technical problems faced in industries.
EEE Department offers the following programs :
The Department has set up a few workshops in order to carry out research in the identified thrust areas. These have facilities to conduct research at all levels. Students are actively involved in this to do research. Also research scholars and faculty members guide these students to do research in these labs. A diverse and talented pool of faculty with enviable credentials and sound knowledge in the academic discipline mentor the students in their projects and help them to realize their innovative ideas.
The electrical workshop has got three components, which provides introductory practical knowledge about Electrical and Electronics Engineering for all the engineering disciplines.
The department has well equipped Electrical machines laboratory. This laboratory is established with the wide range of equipments for doing their regular laboratory experiments. The DC machines include generators and motors. The DC machines are of separately excited type, self excited type and compound. AC machines include three phase alternators, motors (Squirrel Cage and Slip Ring type), synchronous motor, synchronizing panel, single phase machines are available. Modernized distribution panels (both AC and DC) are used to provide supply power to the various machine work benches. Each machine work bench is provided with a well designed connecting panel board made from thick hylum sheet with attractive printing on it. The Laboratory serves the educational and research requirements in the field of electric machines, electric motor drive systems, power and industrial electronics.
The lab is basically meant for the conduction of the experiments related to Electric Circuit Theory Lab , Measurements and Digital Electronics Lab and Measurement and Analog Electronic Circuits lab. This lab is well equipped with the various kits such as Kelvins double Bridge for the measurement of low resistance , De Sautys Bridge for the measurement of unknown capacitance and loss factor and Maxwells LC Bridge for the measurement of unknown inductance and quality factor. In addition, to conduct the experiments on transducers , Thermocouple,RTD ,Thermistor ,LVDT and Strin Gauge kits are also available. The Lab is also having Phase Shifting transformers( three phase) ,Current transformers and Energy meters to conduct other experiments such as testing of CT , Ammeter Range extention using CT ,Calibration of Energy meter etc. The Linear IC trainer Kits , Digital IC triner Kits , Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes are available for the conduction of Analog and Digital experimens such as Diode clipping and Clamping circuits,BJT Amplifiers , Oscillators, A/D and D/A conversions ,Linear Voltage Regulator,Adder/Subtractor, MUX/DEMUX, Flip flops , Shift Register, Counter, etc.
The power system simulation laboratory is equipped with software packages like MATLAB/Simulink , Orcad , Multisim for simulation studies namely Power flow analysis , Short circuit , Electromagnetic transient and stability studies of power system. These software packages are also used for the design of Power Electronics and drives models which are used both in student projects and research.
The power electronics lab is equipped with hardware kits for various Power Electronic circuits to learn basic characteristics of Power electronics devices, their Triggering circuits, Modes of Power Conversions and various applications. To gain knowledge of these, the various experiments conducted by students include:

Dr. Navin Kumar, IEEE Student Branch Counselor and Associate Professor(ECE), Amrita School of Engineering gave a talk about IEEE society history and structure , qualifications for IEEE membership, member grade elevation procedure, various societies in IEEE and various student branch chapters active in Amrita School of Engineering. He emphasized the IEEE’s mission to Enhance Technology for humanity and the profession. The membership offers a platform to access to the industry’s most essential technical information, networking opportunities and professional growth.
He motivated the students to offer volunteering in student branch chapters and also to take part in as volunteers in IEEE Societies and communities. The talk was very inspiring and informative.
He appreciated the dedicated volunteering work offered by 2016 committee members and distributed a Certificate of appreciation to the volunteers.
The meeting concluded by vote of thanks by Mrs. Mini Sujith, IEEE PELS SBC adviser..
2015 – 2016
Apart from this, following events were conducted under IEEE –PES & IAS Student Joint Chapter
The event saw a good participation from students of B.tech 1st, 2nd and 3rd years of different branches. Teams of 3 each were formed and the quiz was composed of sections with ascending level of difficulty. A perfect ambience for testing the team work and exchanging knowledge was created and everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Post the quiz, the participants were given an opportunity to pitch in ideas for events and workshops to be conducted in the near future, which received an amazing response.
The first session was taken up by Dr.Deepa, Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE which included the introduction to solar energy and its utility in real life, also how the energy estimation is done.
The second session was taken by Mr.Ronaldo, alumni of ASE , Bengaluru and presently working in BOSCH as a hardware engineer. His session included the construction of solar panel and the parameters taken into consideration before its build-up.
The third session was the working on matlab and live demonstration of its interfacing with a solar panel. This also included the construction of buck-boost converter using matlab software. The sessions were really knowledgeable, authentic and useful. It helped in creating foresighted vision about the different aspects related to electrical field. It also enlightened the young minds to come up with unique ideas and implement it in real life.
The research at the department aims to take up projects meeting to the needs of the society. The department’s research efforts are improved by collaborations with leading research universities and industries around the world.
