Introduction to thermodynamics,  pressure volume work in reversible & irreversible process, related problems. First law of thermodynamics,   internal energy,  enthalpy,   relation between internal energy & enthalpy, heat capacity, free energy. Second law of thermodynamics , Spontaneous & non spontaneous reactions, Gibbs-Helmholtz equation &  related problems Clausius-Clapeyron equation, Trouton’s rule, Kirchoff's equation, Lavoisier & Laplace law, Exergonic & endergonic reactions in cells, Coupled reactions   with few examples, Energy rich molecules & their role  in cells,Hess’s law & its applications, van’t Hoff isotherm, Equilibrium constant & temperature dependence

Chemical kinetics

Rate of reaction, differential rate law expressions, Order & molecularity, rate constant, integrated equations (Ist,2nd & 3rd   order), nth life of  a reaction,           Arrhenius equations, temperature dependence of rate constant, energy profile diagrams.
