Academics

Bachelor of Education (B. Ed.) is a under graduate professional degree which prepares students to work as a teacher in schools.

The program will train teachers to understand the nature, purpose and philosophy of secondary education, develop sensitivity to socio-cultural issues of national concern, foster creative thinking among pupils for reconstruction of knowledge,inspire their students to actively participate in physical and yogic exercises, games and sports, develop positive attitude to teaching profession, make pedagogical analysis of the subjects they are to teach at the secondary stage, etc.

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)(CBCS)

PROGRAMME DETAILS

It is two year four semesters programme as per the NCTE Regulations 2014, under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Continuous Assessment Grading Pattern (CAGP).

Total number of working days shall be 200 days for each year. Excluding the period of admission and examination.

The institute shall have medium of instruction both in Kannada and English separately. Student teachers shall be sent to schools for internship as per the medium. Student teachers can write in any medium irrespective of the medium opted during internship or theory classes.

The programme shall comprise of three broad curricular areas :- Perspectives in Education, Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies and Engagement with the Field (EWF) including courses on Enhancing Professional Capacities (EPC), all the courses include in-built field- based units of study and projects along with theoretical inputs from an inter disciplanary perspective. The practical courses are classified into three groups namely college based, community based and school based practicals. These field attached practical courses enable student teachers to engage with children, school and their contexts. There shall be Community Service with preplanned projects and programmes. This will be done periodically after surveying the need and demand. Major themes will be 'Education' Contemporary India Health and Hygiene, Crafts, Women Empowerment, Gender Disparity, Issues of Diversity, Inclusive Class rooms, Life Skills, Budgeting, Teaching to convert leisure to pleasure and treasure, General Cleanliness, Awareness to Social Evils and Environment through various Cultural Programmes, Rain Water Harvesting, Nutrition and Constructive work for all.Community Work will be allotted to groups on rotation.

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMME:

On completion of the B.Ed. Programme, the teacher trainees will:

  • understand the nature, purpose and philosophy of secondary education;
  • develop sensitivity to socio-cultural issues of national concern;
  • develop an understanding of the psychology of the learners;
  • foster creative thinking among pupils for reconstruction of knowledge;
  • develop skills for providing guidance and counselling;
  • undertake Action Research in education;
  • develop communication skills and use modern information technology for school teaching;
  • acquire competencies relevant to stage specific pedagogy, curriculum development, its transaction evaluation;
  • make pedagogical analysis of the subjects they are to teach at the secondary stage;
  • develop capacity to organize recreational activities; inspire their students to actively participate in physical and yogic exercises, games and sports;
  • develop positive attitude to teaching profession and
  • develop aesthetic sensibilities.
