Participation in MA Math's Charitable Activities

The beauty and charm of selfless love and service should not die away from the face of this earth. The world should know that a life of dedication is possible, that a life inspired by love and service to humanity is possible.

Amritapuri students and faculty are fortunate in that their campus is located right next to the international headquarters of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math. As such, they often have an opportunity to participate in the many service activities of the Math.

For instance, in September 2009, thousands of Vidyamritam scholarship recipients from all over Kerala converged on the Amritapuri campus to take part in Amma's birthday celebrations. Many children came from remote villages, traveling outside for the first time in their

Earlier, in 2004, when the killer tsunami struck South India, it devastated the surrounding areas of the ashram also. The engineering building was used to house villagers, who had lost their homes, until the ashram constructed new homes for them.

Students and faculty joined hands to help with the construction activities as well as providing relief to villagers in other ways. From Amma, they had learned that any other response in times of unprecedented social distress would be inadequate.
