The CSI student branch of Amrita School of Engineering organizes several events like guest lectures, seminars, interactions with luminaries from the industry, competitions and workshops for the students. Our CSI student chapter was adjudged as the best CSI student chapter in India for three consecutive years: 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13. This is a spectacular achievement considering the fact that there are over 600 CSI chapters in various colleges and universities in India. The award was conferred in recognition of various technical and societal activities organized by the student chapter including expert lectures, seminars, technical workshops, short term training programs and inter-college symposia. Our CSI Student Branch Coordinator Prof. Prashant R. Nair has been selected as a CSI Distinguished Speaker among the membership base of over 120,000 all over India and abroad. Also, he had been awarded CSI Academic Excellence Award in the year 2011 for maximum publishing in the CSI Communications Journal. Also, Computer Society of India has funded for a research project titled “GPS based Location Assisting System” in the year 2015.

ACM- A student branch of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) was inaugurated on 8 January, 2009 by Dr. RaghavRao, Professor of Information Systems, State University of New York at Buffalo, USA.Currently it has more than 50 student chapter members.


IEEE Amrita, Coimbatore chapter was established on 10th December, 2007 inaugurated by Dr. T.R.Padmanabhan, Prof.Emeritus, I.T Department, Former Dean Amrita School of Engineering. The IEEE student chapter help students to access the research papers found on the IEEE database. It works to spread awareness among the students about latest technologies, that concern their respective fields, by conducting workshops and seminars which give them the necessary information. The students are encouraged to participate in various competitions and research competitions where they can improve on their skills and discover their interests in specific fields.


  • Propagate the importance and usefulness of IEEE in an engineer’s life and help them in becoming a part of IEEE.

  • Expose students to the current research work and try to influence their projects based on the same.

  • Use IEEE’s collaboration with MSDNAA (Microsoft Software Development Network Academic Alliance) through which students can access developer software which can help them in their projects.

  • Inspire students to work on a specific area of their interest and be able to develop new innovative technology which will help in the betterment of mankind.

The IEEE student chapter actively organizes various events at the institution and has won several accolades for its performance.

  • IEEE All India Student Congress (AISC) 2013 was held from 3rd to 6th October, 2013 at AMRITA University, Coimbatore. Concurrent events included IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Power & Energy Society Student Congresses, which was held on 6 October, 2013. 330 IEEE student members from 80 premier colleges and universities across India attended the proceedings.
  • IEEE student branch organized a special lecture on “Empowering the Nation through YOU”. The event was held on 4 March, 2013 in association with the Lions Club of Pollachi, CSI and ACM student Chapters of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore
  • IEEE student branch organized a special lecture on “Women – Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” on 7 March, 2013 in association with the Lions Club of Pollachi, CSI and ACM student Chapters of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore.
  • IEEE student branch organized a prestigious talk by Ms Jenniffer McIntyre, US Consul General, US Embassy, Chennai on “Higher Education Opportunities in the USA” on 1st March 2012 in association with the Centre for Corporate and International Relations of Amrita School of Engineering,Coimbatore
  • A one-day In-house Orientation Program on “Employability and Soft Skills” was held on 4th November 2011.
  • A month long symposium, “COGITO” was conducted from 12 September to 14 October, 2011.
  • IEEE student branch organized the 24 hour IEEE Extreme Programming contest for its members in October 2011. . The contest was proctored by Prof .K.Gangadharan, Chairman-IT and IEEE Sponsor and Mr. C.Arunkumar, Student Branch Counselor of IEEE, Amrita.
  • Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore IEEE student branch won the award from the IEEE Madras Section for organizing the maximum number of events in the year 2011.
  • Code Crusade competition was organised on 24 and 25 January, 2011.
  • One day Workshop on “Network Security” was conducted on May 4th, 2012.
  • IEEE student branch organized the 24 hour IEEE Extreme Programming contest for its members.
  • The website of the IEEE student branch of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, won third prize in the IEEE Region 10 Website Competitions.
  • A two day workshop on Distributed Computing and a hands-on session on Hadoop was held on 30th and 31st October 2012.
  • A workshop on “A Byte of Python” organized by the ACM and IEEE student branches on 19, 20 and 21 April, 2012.
  • One-day seminar on “Perspectives on Visual Effects (VFX) and Computer Animation industry” on 4 January, 2011.
  • A Workshop on Python was organized by student Mr. Kracekumar, , Department of IT. The event was conducted on 3 and 4 March, 2011.
  • A one-day workshop on “Research Issues in Image processing” on 18 November, 2011 was organized by IEEE student branch. 50 participants attended the workshop which was inaugurated by Prof. K. Gangadharan, Chairman-IT. The resource person was Dr. Dr. M. M.Roomi, Coordinator, Image Processing Special Interest Group (SIG) of Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai. Dr. T.R. Padmanabhan, Professor Emeritus also addressed the gathering.
  • An interaction meeting with Mr H.R. Mohan, Chairman, IEEE Computer Society, Madras Section was organized on 29 October, 2010.
  • A workshop, enlightening the students about ‘Windows Azure’ and ‘Windows Phone7’ was conducted on 22nd September, 2010.
  • A seminar on “Server Virtualization” by Mr. Manoj Parmeswaran, the Vice President of Velan Infosystems, Coimbatore was organized on 3 September, 2010.
  • Intra-university symposium, “TITANIQ 2010” was conducted during the month of March 2010.
