About the Lab

The laboratory is a humble effort towards the understanding, design and manufacture of multifunctional materials, adhering to the principles of sustainability at the raw material, process, supply chain and end user levels. Deployment of operational sustainability is given paramount importance, rather than idealistic sustainability.  Hence the concept of “circular economy” at the micro level with possible towering to macro-scale will be worked around to help the indigent with affordable, durable and bio-safe material with possible multi-functional roles in real lives.

RESEARCH

Keeping in line with the above premise, complete valorization of bio- waste like cow dung, opaline silica extraction from biomass, nil investment raw material for manufacture of biocidal materials, metal oxide semiconductor, photocatalysis and crystal structures are some of areas of research currently perused. 

To increase environment clean visibility of consumer products, sustainable electronics and memory storage materials are the other domain of interest for the research group. These include room temperature ferromagnetism and magneto-optic materials.

Food is ubiquitous and the importance of food contact materials is an evolving situation. Addressing this thrust area- engineered food contact materials satisfying mechanical, tribological, thermal and bio-safe properties are investigated. Hybrid and ceramic coatings are promising in this aspect.

Predicting properties of materials helps to make an informed decision and hence rigorous computational methods like density functional theory are practiced.
