Amrita School of Pharmacy, an integral component of Amrita University, is the first to start functioning among the schools under Health Sciences campus. Located in the vibrant city of Kochi, Kerala, Amrita School of Pharmacy offers training for one of the most sought after professional courses. The School’s commitment to excellence in healthcare is in line with the overall objective of the Kochi - based Health Sciences campus of the University. The School of Pharmacy strives not only to provide quality education in pharmaceutical sciences but also to establish itself in research and serves as an ideal platform for the overall development of highly competent pharmacy professionals. The School maintains an exemplary clinical practice and conducts community outreach programmes that address the needs of Kochiites and the society at large.
The School is housed in a self-contained four-storied building and is located away from the hustle and bustle of the main hospital within the campus, yet has access to all the clinical services. This optimal location provides a calm and quiet atmosphere conducive to learning.
The first batch of Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) students commenced their academic programme in 2005 paving the way for a seamless transition. The productivity of the School significantly improved with the introduction of Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm.) programmes from 2008 when the Pharmacy Practice specialization was initiated and in 2009 when Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry disciplines followed suit.
Once the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) recognised and announced the launch of the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) programme in 2008 all over India, Amrita School of Pharmacy, taking full advantage of its in-house hospital and the associated healthcare services, started offering the six - year integrated Pharm. D. (Regular) and three-year Pharm. D. (Post Baccalaureate) programmes from 2010.
The two programmes were the first of their kind in the state of Kerala and the School’s enrolment expanded significantly due to this landmark achievement. The gradual yet steady thrust in research has culminated in the registration of candidates for the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) programme.
Since the School strongly believes in the teachings of its respected Chancellor Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), it advocates the inculcation of cultural values in one’s day - to - day ac-tivities. Hence, value-based education is mandatory for all students enrolling in the School. The students are encouraged and motivated to participate in the charitable outreach work of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
Pharmacy profession demands strict adherence to a set of ethical principles. The vision of Amrita School of Pharmacy, therefore, is to ensure the provision of high quality value - based education with an international focus while maintaining utmost professionalism, integrity and ethics.
As the school marches ahead, it vows by its unwavering commitment to provide education to students from all sections of society regardless of race, caste, religion or economic condition.
The Amrita School of Pharmacy is recognised by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and other statutory bodies and agencies. The School and the University are accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with 'A' Grade.
