A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Southern Naval Command Headquarters and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham for academic and research collaboration. The MoU was signed between Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command (SNC) and P. Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, a Defence release said here. The MoU, signed in the university's campus at Coimbatore, would encompass fields of mechanical engineering, electronics and communication, computer science and other areas of mutual interest such as bio science, medical and cyber security, the release said.

Amrita School of Engineering invites applications from eligible candidates for admission to B.Tech. programmes offered at Amritapuri, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore and Amaravati. Eligibility to apply should be for candidates, whose date of birth falls on or after 1^st July, 1998. Educational Qualification requires A pass in 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent examination with minimum 60% aggregate of marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with not less than 55% in each of these three subjects.

Dr. S. Mahadevan, Deputy Dean, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus, said, ''In our canteen, even before this initiative was announced by the state government, we decided to go plastic-free — almost a year ago, in fact. We are using only steel glasses, plates and spoons. Even during the recently held three-day international conference, we had zero plastic usage."
