Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham's IT solution to Aid Fishermen at Sea

Mr. Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of HRD, inaugurated Amrita OceanNet, in the presence of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Chancellor Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Amma, on September 26, 2016. OceanNet is an Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham project offering internet connectivity for fishermen at sea to help them stay safe and provides connectivity up to 60 km. Each boat’s coordinates, speed, course is tracked on a land-based server. SOS calls are also supported. 

OceanNet is developed by The Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications(Amrita WNA) of Amrita University

PM Narendra Modi Lauds Contributions of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined in the celebration of Amritavarsham 63 by giving a speech via webcast during the occasion. “Amma’s initiative in building toilets has been a great help in our Swach Bharat programme. Amma has pledged to contribute 100-crore rupees towards sanitation efforts in Kerala. This pledge includes the construction of 15,000 toilets for the poor. Today, I am informed that throughout the State, Amma’s ashram has already completed construction of 2,000 toilets, ” he shared.

Amrita OceanNet & UNESCO Chair Launched at Amritavarsham 63

The 63rd birthday of spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi was celebrated on Tuesday at Amritapuri Campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. A series of humanitarian initiatives including a low-cost networking solution to provide internet connectivity to commercial fishermen at sea (OceanNet), establishing of a UNESCO Chair at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, etc were launched.
