Amrita Celebrates Antimicrobial Awareness Week

As an initiative to increase awareness on global Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), as well as to encourage best practices among the general public, and health workers to stop the further emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections, *WHO has declared November 18-24 as the Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW). 

Microbes Outsmarting Man Through Anti-Microbial Resistance

The Amrita School of Biotechnology (ASBT) made its initial foray into the Antimicrobial research arena in 2014 after having been selected by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Department of Biotechnology, Government of India for the Reinvent the Toilet Grand Challenge Award, to address the problems of infection and smell in waste water.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has become the first Indian University to partner with European Union's Human Brain Project that has 143 University institutes in Europe working together to understand brain function and develop solutions to better understand and cure brain diseases.

Faculty and research scholars from Amrita School of Biotechnology attended a two day International Conference on Bacteriophage Research and Antimicrobial Resistance (ICBRAMR) from  December 12-13, 2019, organized by the School of Biosciences and Technology, VIT, Vellore.

An Amrita study by PhD student Hemalatha Sasidharakurup, along with Kanishka and Lakshmi Nair 2019 undergraduate thesis students BRITE, was presented by Prof. Shyam Diwakar of Amrita School of Biotechnology at the International Conference on Complex Networks and their Applications (Complex Networks 2019) at Lisbon, Portugal from December  10-12, 2019.
