Recently Mr. Dominic Cummings, Chief Political Strategist for Mr. Boris Jhonson Prime Minister of United Kingdom wrote a blog suggesting the need to revamp the decision making strategies employed in UK. Primarily he focused on the need to explore and exploit state of the art tools and techniques from mathematics and physics. Mr. Cummings wants to create a set of experts consisting of Physicists, Mathematicians and Data Scientists to deal with the major social and economic issues of UK.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Professors Design 'Tipping Point' to Predict Change in Diabetes

Professors from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, along with other Universities, has derived a model, named the 'tipping point', that can predict a change in Diabetes in the system, be it natural or manmade. "Systems such as financial markets, wildlife ecosystems and climatic conditions of the earth undergo sudden transition, which often leads to catastrophic consequences.", said Dr. E. A. Gopalakrishnan, Assistant Professor, Computational Engineering and Networking, Coimbatore. "This tipping happens mainly because of the change in the system conditions such as changes in the economic policies, sudden decrease in the wildlife population due to human intervention or emission of greenhouse gases. The tipping can also be the result of fluctuations present in the system which amplify under certain specific conditions," he added. This model is inspired from an existing research.
