Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has inked an MoU with Esri India to establish a Centre of Geospatial Excellence on Spatial Analysis and Modeling with dedicated facilities for research, development and testing.

The Centre would promote development of specific skills and technical knowhow among academicians, students and the industry around geospatial technologies and latest toolkits like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and geospatial Big Data Analytics. It would conduct certificate and diploma courses, training programs and workshops, particularly around geospatial technology application areas to strengthen multi-hazard risk reduction and community resilience.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham will soon establish a Centre for Geospatial Excellence on Spatial Analysis and Modelling.

The establishment was an outcome of an agreement inked with Esri India to establish the centre to promote development specific skills and technical know-how among academics, students and industry around geospatial technologies and latest tool kits like artificial intelligence, machine learning and geospatial big data analytics. Maneesha Sudheer, Dean of International Programs and UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development and Innovation, said the collaborative initiatives would be towards sustainable development, quality education, gender equality, sustainable communities among others.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham to Launch Environmental Information System (Envis) Center

The Center for Sustainable Future at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus, has been selected by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) to set up an Environmental Information System (Envis) Center on invasive alien species. The center would collect, document and disseminate information on invasive species threatening the biodiversity of the region and other parts of the country. It would also conduct extension activities such as involving local communities to make value-added products using invasive plant species, said representatives of the centre.

Amrita Centre for Sustainable Future Organizes Training Course for Tribal People in Making Furniture from Invasive Weed

The Centre for Sustainable Future, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (CSF, AVV) organised the training course for the members from the Irula tribal community to make furniture out of Lantana camara, a harmful invasive species of weed, at Singampathy village in Siruvani hills. Maya Mahajan, Associate Professor, CSF, AVV, said that the course duration was 75 days, which comprises initial 15 days of theory classes and 60 days of practical classes. Ms. Mahajan told, “We conducted exams in February, where we told them to make 10 products. The certificates were given after reviewing their performance."
