Amrita Doctors Performed Surgery Using 3D Technology on Nine Month-Old Infant

A team of doctors from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi, has carried out a rare surgical procedure using 3D printing technology to give a new lease of life to an infant who was born without a sternum or breast bone – a rare condition known as complete cleft sternum. The doctors made use of 3D model to perform the complex surgery several times and then used titanium to print the implant that was fixed in place in the body of the infant during the surgery.

BD Centre of Excellence in Clinical Flow Cytometry Launched at Amrita Hospital

Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), in collaboration with Amrita Hospital, launched the Amrita-BD Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Clinical Flow Cytometry, a critical technique that has many clinical applications. The state-of-the-art CoE that was launched in Kochi will provide training to researchers and clinicians to enhance their expertise in flow cytometry and focus on frontier areas in biological sciences.

Amrita-ViswaSanthi Health Care Project Inaugurated at AIMS, Kochi

ViswaSanthi, a non-profit organisation established by Actor Mohanlal in the name of his parents, have launched the 'Amrita-ViswaSanthi Health Care Project' on August 5, 2019. The project in association with Amrita Hospital will bear the entire expenses of the heart surgeries of children under the age of 18 years belonging to socio – economically backward sections. It was inaugurated by Shri Mohanlal on the occasion of his mother’s birthday at a function held at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. The first beneficiary of the Scheme, a 5 year old girl, Simran, along with her family members from Bihar, were also present at the function.
