Bio

Dr. Asha Vijayan is an Assistant Professor (Level 12/ Selection grade) at the Amrita Mind Brain Center in Amritapuri.

With a post-graduation in Bioinformatics and an undergraduate in Biotechnology, which was a triple main course majoring in Biotechnology, Chemistry, and Zoology, she had a passion for interdisciplinary sciences.

She received her Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience in 2019 from the School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The Ph.D. topic was on developing a Cerebellum Inspired Spiking Neural Network for prediction as well as Motor Control, and the topic was interdisciplinary in nature, which included neuroscience and artificial intelligence.

She has been associated with over 15 years of dedicated academic, research, and teaching experience with the School of Biotechnology and Engineering mainly in the areas related to bioinformatics, systems biology, and computational neuroscience. During this period, she was marked by many publications in reputed journals, book chapters, and conferences. The continuous engagement with academic pursuits, including participation in workshops, seminars, and training programs, attests to a proactive approach to staying well-informed of cutting-edge developments. She is also a PI for one of the extended Phase III VALUE projects (Virtual and Accessible Laboratories for Universalizing Education); a major virtual labs initiative supported by the Sakshat mission of MHRD, Government of India.

Her research interests encompass neuro-inspired algorithms, computational neuroscience, and bioinformatics, particularly in the realms of structural and systems biology. Dr. Vijayan’s multifaceted expertise reflects her passion for advancing knowledge at the intersection of neuroscience and technology.
