Center for Environmental Studies
"Trees, animals, birds, plants, forests, mountains, lakes and rivers, everything that exists in nature, is in desperate need of our kindness, of the protection and compassionate care of man."
This Center was one of Amrita University's first research centers. Setup soon after the first educational institutions started, that would later come to constitute the University, the Center's mission has been to develop technologies that are environment-friendly, economically sound, socially acceptable and politically viable.
The Center played a major role in the greening of the Coimbatore Campus, where the Amrita University HQ is located. It was instrumental in tranforming hundreds of acres of barren land into what is today, a lush-green, picturesque campus. The Center is now spearheading similar efforts on other Amrita campuses as well. Learn More >>
The Center actively promotes sustainable development based on community needs and works to create awareness among people regarding equitable use of natural resources, conserving and nurturing biological diversity, gene pool and other resources for long term food and health security. Learn More >>
A Miracle in Transformation
When Wall Street Journal’s livemint.com ran a feature on Amrita School of Business at this campus, it wrote about the campus as being perhaps India's most picturesque campus. Indeed, students and faculty members also express the same feelings -- to them, the campus is like an oasis in a desert.
